Word Play at the Nancy Wilson Scanlan Gallery
March 19 - April 27, 2007

Bea Baldwin, Gallery Director

"Word Play" exhibition and performances features new works by 24 artists based on three words chosen at random.

"Word Play" is a joint venture of the performing and visual arts communities featuring new art works created for the exhibition by 24 artists. The exhibition will be on view at the Nancy Wilson Scanlan Gallery at St. Stephen's Episcopal School from March 19-April 27, 2007. Performances take place on April 1 at 2pm and 4 pm, with a reception for the artists at 3pm.

Each artist was invited to create work based on three randomly-chosen words, heightening opportunity for chance, play and serendipity--key elements of the creative process. Bringing together artists and writers from the visual and performing arts communities offers the chance to see the breadth and flexibility of the creative process at work across media. Visitors are invited to participate by responding to the three words on a chalkboard wall as part of the exhibition.

The gallery exhibition includes work in collage, video, glass, paper, installations and text. Artists featured in the Scanlan Gallery are: Annette DiMeo Carlozzi, Robert Faires, Virginia Fleck, Saundra Goldman, Madeline Irvine, Judy Jensen, Annette Lawrence, Lance Letscher, Bill Lundberg, Rusty Martin and Susan Kirr, Regina Vater, and Steve Wiman.

The performing artists present their work in dramatic text, poetry, spoken word, movement, and song. Artists featured in the recital room are: Andrea Ariel, Ellen Bartel, Lowell Bartholomee, Sonnet Blanton, Sharon Bridgforth, Dan Dietz, Robert Faires, Kurt Heinzelman, Kirk Lynn, Steve Moore, C. Denby Swanson, and Steven Tomlinson.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The gallery is also open during special events in the Helm Fine Arts Center and on weekends by appointment. Free Admission and Open to the Public.
