Friends of Becker Library

Friends of Becker Library includes all parents who volunteer in various ways to support the library. In addition to helping the librarians throughout the year, they sponsor two important special events.

The annual Holiday Book Fair took place on December 3-4, 2009. This school-wide event raises money to provide resources and new books for Becker Library's permanent collection. It also provides a festive and fun shopping opportunity for the whole St. Stephen's community. This year's Fair was extended as an in-store Book Fair at BookPeople through the weekend. Many thanks to the dozens of committed and hard-working volunteers who made this year's Fair a great success; special gratitude goes to the 2009 chair Amanda Schmidt and her co-chair Kimberly Johnson.

The sixth annual St. Stephen's Literary Festival took place on February 26, 2010. Made possible by the Friends of Becker Library Committee and its many volunteers, this event brought eighteen notable writers--including novelists, sports writers, musicians, journalists, an historian, a technology writer, and an advertising executive--to our campus to give presentations about their writing to the students during two morning sessions. The 2010 Literary Festival chair was Sherrie Frachtman, and our chair-elect is Lisa Farr. To contact Lisa about next year's Literary Festival, send a message to literaryfestival@sstx.org.
